Checked November 4, 2026. Sonora’s official tourism calendar lists Choya Bay XCM for Sunday, November 8, 2026, at Pista MTB La Choya in Puerto Peñasco, with riding on Cerro La Choya, also called Cholla Hill. See the official event listing.
For a cycling trip, build your weekend around the organizer’s final instructions. The date and location are confirmed in the tourism listing; the start time, entry availability and detailed rider requirements still need direct confirmation before departure.

What should riders confirm before signing up?
Request the current race notice and save it on your phone. Check the category you intend to enter, its distance and eligibility, registration deadline, price and refund terms. Ask whether payment must be completed ahead of time or whether race-day registration is offered. A calendar listing alone does not reserve a place.
Also confirm number pickup, required equipment, any waiver, the start sequence, cutoff times and the support provided on the course. Ask how route changes or cancellation announcements will be communicated. If renting a bike, obtain written confirmation of availability, collection time and return arrangements before paying for the rest of the trip.
Do not plan your arrival around an unconfirmed start time
Published calendars show conflicting times. Confirm the rider check-in and start directly with the organizer; allow for both when planning your departure from your accommodation. Ask for an exact meeting-point pin rather than navigating to a general neighborhood search result.
Save the entrance, parking instructions and a contact number offline. If another person is dropping you off, agree on a pickup location outside the riding area. Do not assume access to a start or finish area is the same as access to the surrounding trails.
How to prepare for the weekend
Our suggested packing list is a helmet, gloves, eye protection, water, your usual ride food, a repair kit, a pump and a charged phone. This is a planning checklist, not the event’s mandatory equipment list; obtain that list separately. Have your bike checked before traveling and choose your category according to your experience and the confirmed course information.
Ask your accommodation about secure bicycle storage, stairs or elevator access, and checkout arrangements. A convenient room is less useful if there is nowhere suitable to keep the bike. Plan breakfast and your post-ride meal around the final schedule rather than assuming nearby businesses will open early for the race.
For the drive into town, consult our driving and border guide, then check the relevant official travel and road updates before leaving. Use the weather guide as a planning resource and check a current forecast closer to the ride.
Advice for companions and spectators
Ask the organizer which spectator areas are open, whether there is an admission charge, and where vehicles may park. Keep children and pets away from the course and wait for a marshal’s instruction before crossing it. Avoid stopping on a trail to take photographs.
For time away from the event, browse our things to do guide. Keep optional activities flexible until you know the race and pickup schedule.
